Hero of the Day: Jennifer HudsonI think we need to start telling people that they are fat and that they need to do something about it, no more excuses. Just like we tell people that they are smoking too much and drinking too much, we need to tell people that they are eating too much. Obesity has replaced a number of health issues as the number one cause of death in America. Excess weight and obesity is associated with the top fifty chronic diseases in the United States. There are more fat people in America than anywhere else in the world. C’mon fat people, you have to do better! What are we doing about this as a people? One individual, recording artist, actress and spokesperson – Jennifer Hudson, has become an inspiration to all of the fat people out there trying to lose weight. AND get this, even with her obvious musical and acting success, she chose to overcome as a victim of obesity. Last week, while responding to tweets about Jennifer Hudson’s new Weight Watchers commercial, there were multiple people criticizing how much weight Jennifer Hudson loss, proclaiming that she looks “too skinny”, and “a bit unhealthy”. J Hud is at the utmost healthiest state in her life. After being afflicted with pain from the killings of her family while dealing with super rising stardom, and becoming a new mother all in the public’s eye, she decided to tackle her weight issue; her fatdom. Let me just tell you folks, after hearing multiple testimonies of those who fought the obesity disease, it is not a walk in the park. She told herself “I can” and against all odds, she did! It is not disclosed by Weight Watchers how much weight J Hud loss, but its been reported that she has lost at least 6 dress sizes. Fantabolous! Being fat is like being an alcoholic, drug addict, or smoker; an addiction. During the airing of “Shut up Skinny Folks: The Obesity Debate” on my radio show Wellness for the Real World, I interviewed Kitty Gurkin Rosati, expert at the Rice Diet Program and author of the The Rice Diet Renewal: A Healing 30-Day Program for Lasting Weight Loss. Kitty says, “I would rather deal with a heroine addict than a food addict. According to Kitty, a dietician who helps people overcome food addiction, one of the first things people must do according to weight loss is admit that they are fat and that they have a problem. People tend to use a range of excuses to justify why they do not need to lose weight. “I have a thyroid issue”. I have a bad knee so I can’t exercise. “I dont have time to go to the gym. “I really do not eat that much anyway.” “Healthy foods are too expensive and take too long to prepare.” Jennifer Hudson is a honorable person because she did not use her extenuating circumstances as reasons to stay fat. No more for the victim mentality! Instead of blaming life circumstances: a busy schedule, new motherhood, and the tragic loss of her family, J Hud decided to embrace her wellness, and capitalize on it by losing weight. Instead of her singing “I will survive”, Jennifer chose to be a thriver. The hero of the day is Jennifer Hudson.
