Not A Skinny Bitch: What Bugs Me About Foodies
Today I just want to tell you something about eating. Wednesday is always the day I want to talk about food. It is smack in the middle of the week and we are all looking towards the weekend but not yet close enough to it. The long off feeling of weekend fun behind and in front can drive one to eat. So as I read the New York Times about gourmet insect eating, I had to render my opinion. Foodies always have something new on the block. Now it’s eating bugs, gourmet style. For those of you who are thinking that this is old hat because you have done it on travels around the world, now you can go to New York and find all sorts of things like bowls of live worms being served in restaurants. I know these things that I can just go outside right now and dig up are at very high price points on a Brooklyn menu. Somehow this makes it chic. This is a trend that is great for your weight loss plan in a few ways depending on your perspective. First, eating insects is a good source of protein. Second, they usually have interesting texture. I like food with interesting textures like crispy and crunchy but I am not into the slimy things. The only worms I am planning on eating are gummy worms. My youngest son favors the sour kind. There are two different textures and flavors right there. Third, if you cannot get over in your mind eating insects, then I guess you will be happy eating more vegetables and less protein. But note the arehealth benefits to eating bugs. Although I have done my fair share of traveling, I become like a vegan in some far off places. Nothing wrong with being vegan. It’s chic now too but I am a meat-loving woman. Something about those creepy crawling beings that makes it hard for me to digest. I get nightmares about being eaten from the inside out by thousands of these creatures like a horror movie or have visions of a Hitchcock movie like “The Birds” when millions of flying and crawling are after me and just me and cover my whole body. Can you hear me screaming as you see the bugs crawling out of every orifice of my body and no one will save me? In my recommendation for people to try new foods, I won’t feel so bad for you if you leave out the insects. But if you are interested in tasting these crawling delights, head to Brooklyn Kitchen.
