Sinners and Saints

September 9th, 2010

I love to snack. Now I know what you are thinking:  Someone who is into wellness is a holy rolling religious fanatic about what she eats (?!) – but guess what?  No  #*@&ing way.  My thing is how can I eat and enjoy life without being the size of Precious?

So here I am in Beverly Hills at the SLS Hotel.  You want to say fabulous? I am loving it.  Bigggg!  Next to my heavenly luxurious bed are two white boxes that look like drawers from a small filing cabinet where you might keep those bills you aren’t rushing to pay.  No bills in these boxes though.

They both have a name on them.  One says “Saints”  and the other, “Sinners”.  The box with the card reading “Saints” has the following goodies in it:

  • Trail mix
  • Yogurt raisins
  • Unsalted cashews
  • Fruit munch
  • Stride Gum (I will forgive them for the product with aspartame)
  • A choco-walla bar by  Odwalla
  • Honey Wheat Dipping Pretzels
  • Jelly Beans (with 100% of daily Vitamin C)
  • Good Health Natural Foods Crispy Cinnamon Apple Chips
  • A baseball cap

On the wall to the left of my desk as part of the decoration is a small apple sitting on the mirrored shelf.  Above it, it reads “Be Good”.

Now let’s get to that other box, “Sinners”.   This one is stocked with all kinds of really junky junk food.

This box is interesting because it has two other items; they are kits.  One is called Small Little Scratch (get it? SLS, catchy, huh?) and contains first aid items like bandages, Tylenol, decongestants and antacids.  The other kit is my favorite thoughg:  Seductive Little Secrets, an Intimacy Kit containing 2 condoms (That’s it?  What happens at 2am when I want to get busy a third and forth time?), 2 towelettes and a package of lubricating jelly (good thing, because by entry #5 will definitely need this).

I think the Seductive Little Secrets kit should be in the “Saints” drawer as this means that there is the thought of safe sex.  But I know you saintly folks out there don’t even have sex and all your kids have been through immaculate conception, so we’ll have to keep it in the “Sinners” box where the “Saints” will surely be exploring all the “taboo” stuff.

The SLS hotel is a part of the Starwood Group which includes Sheraton, Westin, ‘W’, Aloft and St. Regis.  As a Starwood member I always try to book them preferentially but my main priority is to go for where I can get the nicest place for the least amount of dollars.  And let me tell you – you can.  There was a time when I happened upon a deal using a few loyalty points and a few dollars.  NOT bad!

Back to my room with the Saints and Sinners distinction.  Did I tell you my room is fabulous with a stone mod tub in the bathroom?  I love Starwood properties because they are committed to keeping me, and all their guests, healthy.  You know that I’m being provided for when I get those middle-of-the-night munchies and a choice of healthful snacks and Evian water is ready for me.  Starwood also has workout and fitness areas with high-quality aerobic machines as well as weights.  Now add that to the usual wonderful spas with a great menu of all types of services from Hot Stone and Therapeutic massages to Balanced Body treatments to Urban Cure face care.  Being five or seven star hotels, of course they also have beauty services such as nail care, hair care and make-up applications or lessons.

The thing is, the Beverly Hills SLS Hotel has made being a Saint or Sinner almost one and the same.  And when you think about it, isn’t that how it is anyway for those of us truly in the know?
