Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, offers her perspective on the topic of Paula Deen accepting an endorsement deal with diabetes drug manufacturer following her untimely revelation of having diabetes for the past three years.

NEW YORK, NY – February 7, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, that shares a few of her doctor’s orders on how she could recover from the situation currently creating a national storm in the media. The article, titled “Paula Deen Needs to Get Rid of the White in Her Life” shares some constructive measures Ms. Deen could take to get herself out of the seemingly gaping hole she finds herself in.

Dr. Anderson writes, “Here’s what I have to say to Paula: We all love tasty food. In fact, I enjoy comfort food whenever I end up having it – probably once a year around Thanksgiving. But take it from someone that has a lot of color in her life; make the simple switch to natural products. You need to get out of that southern mentality at least when it comes to the ingredients in your delicious southern foods – and start infusing a LOT more color into them.”

“I trust that her doctors are treating her in the best way that they know how, with this magic little pill to “make it all go away”. But it’s only a temporary fix and the next time Paula is in the news, I want to read about how she turned the tables around, aligned herself with quality, complementary healthcare practitioners and methods (Chinese acupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine, chiropractic, etc.) and reversed the clock on years of making bad choices. I want to be able to flip the channel over to Food Network and see a smiling, happy, chirping Paula that epitomizes good health, healthy cooking where she is an even bigger celebrity for figuring out how to make delicious southern-style food that is actually good for you,” says Dr. Anderson.

Wellness for the REAL World features information on developing a healthy and fit mind, body and spirit in today’s dynamic society. Dr. Anderson adds her easily understandable, fun-infused voice to the broad-audience discussion on today’s most popular medicines, alternative treatments, health policies and opinions of wellness – so that her listeners can benefit from truly vigorous life in the REAL world today.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, weighs in on patients that are not fully engaged in their health and wellness and how to broaden their involvement as a preventive measure

NEW YORK, NY – January 31, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, that discusses the relationship that patients have with their own health with respect to what they are advised by doctors. The article, titled “Get Up, Fess Up and Take Control of Your Health!” shares important insight on a problem that been disheartening the medical community for years.

Dr. Anderson writes, “More and more people in the medical field are taking notice of this backburner attitude that patients have about their own health and needless to say it leaves us helpless. Thirty, forty years ago we were conditioned to go to the doctor when something wasn’t right, we were told the problem and then we went home to follow the advice that was administered. Never has it been understood that the doctor’s advice wouldn’t be taken seriously. Here we are today with the influx of information available in myriad forms (you name it – on the web, on television, through podcasts, medical journals, mainstream publications and more) leaving people the opportunity to question, not even follow, or worse, not even care about the doctor’s orders.”

“Take someone who is overweight, like the typical patient I mentioned earlier in this article. What on earth will it take to wake up this person? Will a heart attack be enough to convince them that what the doctor ordered is truly best for them? Will one step further than that be enough? Unfortunately, there is little those of us in the medical field can really do to help patients that don’t want to help themselves, other than to counsel, convince and hopefully carry them through their ailments” says Dr. Anderson.

Wellness for the REAL World features information on developing a healthy and fit mind, body and spirit in today’s dynamic society.
Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, shares her unique brand of insight about new research indicating high birth weights and infant levels of baby fat do not translate to obesity later in life.

NEW YORK, NY – January 24, 2012 – Social media medicine expert Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, that discusses the results of a new study out that puts to rest speculation about adult obesity being a product of higher birth and infancy weights. The article, titled “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow: Baby Fat Can’t Be Blamed for Obesity” also sheds light on her opinion of one of the ways society can curtail the actual problem of adult obesity.

Dr. Anderson writes, “A new study … reveals that regardless of a shifting trend toward larger babies, adult obesity levels are unchanged based on that fact. Conducted at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health’s Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, data from an 82-year period was used to follow the birth weights and beyond of babies born in the southwestern region of the state of Ohio. Right around the 1970s babies began to get progressively larger, registering at approximately a pound heavier than those born in previous years. The newer babies’ lengths were also recorded at about a half-inch longer.

But here is where it gets interesting: at one year of age, all babies averaged out to be the same weight – regardless of whether they were of the older days’ variety with lower birth weights or the newer generations when the typical weight at birth was significantly higher. ”

“What, then, could be the reason for an obesity epidemic in America – and the rest of the world? The answer is a simple one. Lack of education is the biggest contributor to obesity. Education is paramount in order for people to be able to ward off early signs and indications of living adulthood as obese individuals. We need to see to it that proper nutrition counseling is made mandatory for each and every school-going child and his or her parent(s). You can’t blame fast food chains for your gaining weight when it is you that drives up and orders the 800-calorie monstrosity that will take years to burn off, if it ever gets burned off. It’s not anyone else’s fault if someone does not go to the gym and work out regularly, despite warnings from their doctors. The truth is that it all boils down to self-control, self-esteem and self-reliance. And none of these things are remotely possible without the basic education needed to support these important building blocks of health…”says Dr.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, shares with us new information that further corroborates the need for physical activity in school-aged children’s lives.

NEW YORK, NY – January 20, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the REAL World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, that offers her perspective on a newly-evaluated set of previous studies, looking at the effect physical activity in school-aged children has on their academic performance. The article, titled “Let’s Get Physical – To Firm Up Our … Minds?” shares recent findings as well as sheds light on how society is grappling with budget cuts that will all but make physical education programs in schools obsolete.

Dr. Anderson writes, “With all the hype over misdiagnosed ADHD in kids and the reason for their hyperactivity in general, researchers shedding new light on old information that links academic performance with physical education makes perfect sense. So often we have seen schools eliminating what once were thought to be valuable aspects of our children’s education. Physical education and exercise in our youngest group of citizens is one such aspect of school and daily life that seems to be dwindling. And now, after fourteen separate studies were scrutinized, it seems that the detrimental effects of less physical activity are proving to be very real.”

“The problem is that there is a four-letter word out there that continues to plague schools across the board. CUTS – as in budget cuts. This is one reason that we can expect to see things like recess and school-sponsored sports programs all but obliterated from the system. What can we as parents or conscious members of society do about it? We can take a stand. We can lobby our Congress-people to disallow schools to cut physical education and activity from their curriculums. We can demand that keeping our kids’ hearts healthy is paramount to the future of our world and show the powers that be that if we are not careful, we stand to suffer the harsh consequences of future generations in poorer health than we are now as a society.” says Dr.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, shares her thoughts given a new study that shows early exposure to salt and salty foods in infants tends to create a disposition to salt cravings.

NEW YORK, NY – January 16, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, Social Media Medicine Expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, in which she discusses new research pointing to salt cravings beginning early from age 6 months onwards. The article, titled “Fostering Healthy Nutrition From As Early As in the Womb” mentions how researchers arrived to their conclusion. The article also touches upon mothers having an opportunity to shape their children’s nutritional future.

Dr. Anderson writes, “There are a lot of things that have been said and many age-old adages exist that hold true to this day. Despite tons of research and changing news and views on many areas of our lives based on new findings, some things never change. Healthy eating and strong nutritional habits is one of those things. No matter how we cut it, diets that are low in fat and cholesterol, incorporate a significant amount of leafy greens, fruits and other vegetables plus lean meats – remain the best and most balanced nutrition possible. So it’s no surprise that researchers report that salt cravings begin at very early ages and stages.”

“…If babies can perceive the tastes they like or dislike as early as 2 months old, shaping how they develop just a few short months later – why can’t we go one step further back and prevent this disposition to unhealthy salty foods before they are even born? It is a known fact that while in utero the foods that mother eats are passed on to babies. Whether that means that they can taste it or if they just develop a natural inclination to the mother’s choices is not the point. The idea that prior to birth babies can and do develop tastes to certain foods means that it is all-important for the mother to watch what she eats during pregnancy,” says Dr.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, calms nerves about recent neti pot death scare.

NEW YORK, NY – January 12, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com critically discussing the fact that people typically adopt the lifestyle habits of those around them. The article, titled “To Neti or Not to Neti” puts the amoeba scare into perspective and advises users not to quit.

Dr. Anderson writes, “How do you spell relief? N-E-T-I P-O-T. People either love it or hate it… this allergy, cold and sinus treatment is never in the grey area. Many a runny nose and congested sinus has been cured by the small plastic genie-in-a-bottle water spout. For those brave enough to try it, the loyalty runs strong. But recent publicity, however, has shed some negative light on the miracle cold curer. Louisiana state health officials have warned about potential dangers of using tap water for sinus irrigation after two patients died of Naegleria fowleri infection because of this little plastic pot.”

“Okay people. The truth is that there is no need for alarm. Keep using your neti pots. According to the Medical News report, ‘N. fowleri infection is rare in the U.S. — only 32 cases have been documented from 2001 to 2010, according to the CDC website.’ Generally when we see cases like this, there is more to the story than there appears to be at first. Often, there is some some type of situation or underlying pre-existing condition that made these people higher risk than the general population,” reports Dr. Anderson.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, advises people to consider cleaning out the skeletons in their closet for a healed spirit.

NEW YORK, NY – January 6, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published a blog on her website www.drveronica.com that discusses a healthy perspective on divulging family secrets and hidden issues to a trusted source, in order to start fresh in 2012. In her blog titled “Skeletons Out of Your Closet,” Dr. Veronica encourages her audience to clean out their shame and guilt and replace it with peace and love in their life.

Dr. Anderson writes, “The New Year is upon us! We have emerged (hopefully in one piece) from our holiday dinner parties and gatherings, and are beginning to write down their desired resolutions. With the hopes of a new annual beginning ahead of us, now is the perfect time to take an honest look at ourselves, perform a moral and practical inventory of where we are, and set our sights high on where we would like to be. When doing this helpful internal inventory, I encourage you not to neglect bringing some attention to secrets and skeletons that you have left in your closet. It’s time to consider cleaning that closet out, because if you do, your spirit will be greatly relieved.”

“I urge you to consider sharing your own dark secrets and bringing them into the light. Talking with someone about what you are most ashamed of or hurt by can have incredible healing effects. Whether you join a support group with people of similar concerns, share your story with a close confidant, post on an online confession website, or hire a professional therapist… talking heals many hearts. Clean out your internal closet for a healed spirit and fresh start in 2012!” explains Dr. Anderson.

Wellness for the Real World features information on developing a healthy and fit mind, body and spirit in today’s dynamic society.
Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, suggests that eating and health habits are contagious.

NEW YORK, NY – January 3, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com critically discussing the fact that people typically adopt the lifestyle habits of those around them. The article, titled “Fat and Overweight Family Dysfunction” suggests that by educating ourselves about healthy diet habits, we can break the cycle of weight gain.

Dr. Anderson writes, “Do friends influence the way we eat, or did we learn our good or bad eating habits from the dinner table during childhood? Experts disagree on which influence has the most pull, but in the meantime, the differing arguments have well researched reasoning. However, we can learn from the concept that weight loss or gain happens in numbers. How can we leverage this knowledge to ensure that we build healthy lifestyles within optimal weight limits?”

“Whichever side of the argument you agree – or disagree – with, there is no denying that people today suffer from weight struggles. The irony is, very few people actually think they are fat. But the truth is that 2/3 of us are. Have you ever wondered why this is? If you come from a fat family, you will have a different view of what is fat and what is not. In certain communities where 80% of the population is overweight, the smaller people are considered thin in that culture but would be seen as obese outside that culture,” reports Dr.

NEW YORK, NY – January 2, 2012 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, social media medicine expert and Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published a blog on her website www.drveronica.com that discusses the decreased death risk from those who contract the flu, who were taking statins for their cholesterol. In her blog titled “Unexpected Flu Death Protection,” Dr. Veronica comments on recent medical research that claims astonishing protection against death from the flu.

Dr. Anderson writes, “You may not have expected it, but researchers have discovered a flu protection characteristic in a medication commonly used for treating high blood cholesterol. A drug called statin is an effective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, which is a producer of cholesterol in the liver. In addition to lower cholesterol levels, statin users may get another benefit from the drug: a lower likelihood of dying if hospitalized with influenza, researchers found. How’s that for a positive side effect!”

“According to research published on MedPage Today, out of those individuals who were admitted to a hospital’s care because they have contracted serious cases of the flu, patients who were using statins survived the flu at a higher rate. They ran a risk of death at a 3.9% rate. Those who were not taking statin drugs had a higher chance of dying within 30 days, a death risk of 5.5%, reported the Oregon Public Health Division,” explains Dr. Anderson.

Dr. Anderson adds her easily understandable, fun-infused voice to the broad-audience discussion on today’s most popular medicines, alternative treatments, health policies and opinions of wellness – so that her listeners can benefit from truly vigorous life in the real world today.

Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, a weekly resource for wellness of mind, body and spirit, offers her insight about the proven connection of the occurrence of cancer with those that have predominantly negative thought patterns or stress-filled lives.

NEW YORK, NY – December 28, 2011 – Dr. Veronica Anderson, Founder and Host of health and wellness web radio talk show, Wellness for the Real World, recently published an article on her website www.drveronica.com, that provides insight into the interesting and proven concept that a person’s emotional outlook has a significant amount of impact on their likelihood to develop cancer. The article, titled “Are You Your Worse Cancer-Causing Agent?” discusses ways that medical practitioners and their patients can help to avoid further risk of cancer by prescribing and subscribing to healthy, non medically-invasive healing and preventive techniques.

Dr. Anderson writes, “Since it has been shown scientifically that there is a very strong brain-body connection between negative thinking and the decline of overall health, I believe it is imperative that as health professionals we owe it to our patients to shed light on this potential death sentence. What’s stopping medical practitioners from educating each and every cancer patient with the potential worsening of their condition if they do not hold the right attitude throughout their ordeal?”

“Though it is a cruel sentiment to suggest that when people have cancer they may very well have contributed to it by virtue of their own attitude – what is wrong with saying the truth? Society is quick to point out when someone is smoking a cigarette, aren’t they? And who doesn’t sound out loud and clear how the perils of walking unprotected through a radiation-filled X-ray machine are just about the worse thing you can do for you or your unborn baby?

So my question is this: If we can unabashedly talk about the things that people eat that are cancer-causing, and the environment in which they can be exposed that are cancer-causing – shouldn’t we also be addressing the attitudes they may be holding that are cancer-causing?” says Dr.
